Old Shop Cottage is a very characterful and quirky cottage sleeping 6 in 3 bedrooms (2 bathrooms).

Originally, this cottage was the village bakery in the extremely picturesque village of Bantham, South Devon. Set right in the village centre, it is only a few minutes walk to the incredible soft sand beach at Bantham, famous for sailing and surfing.

Every room in this cottage is charming with little window seats and quirky angular walls. On the ground floor, there is a large open plan kitchen diner, which is extremely well equipped with everything you would need to cook an elaborate meal. There are plenty of pots and pans; dishwasher; large family fridge freezer; oven/hob; and microwave, kettle and toaster. The dining table comfortably seats 6. With cozy arm chairs too, the kitchen is the hub of the house.

There is a lovely living room with log burner, TV (with hdmi connection if you wish to stream from your tablet) and plenty of squidgy sofas. The living room patio doors lead to the sunny patio garden. It has very high gates/fences which makes it very secure for your dogs and children (there is a high bolt to prevent small children from exiting the property unsupervised). With seating, this garden is perfect for a summer BBQ. There is also a downstairs cloakroom with washing machine and tumble drier.

Upstairs, there is a master bedroom with a super-king bed. The master bedroom has plenty of wardrobe space and even has glimpses of the tidal Avon River. The second bedroom is a single with additional single available to make a twin bedroom. The third bedroom is a superking or twin. There is a fully refurbished shower room with large walk in shower. There is a second bathroom with bath and shower attachment.

As this cottage is old, the stairs are steep, so we would not recommend this cottage to anyone who is mobility impaired. The cottage does not have its own dedicated parking. There is on street parking available from October to April (inclusive) outside the cottage. From May to September (inclusive), parking is at the beach car park (2 minutes walk – approx 100 meters away). This is a pay car park and is £6.50/day or £25/week (2020 prices); payable at the car park entrance (manned car park). There is absolutely always parking available at this car park even in August! When the parking restrictions are in place, you can stop briefly outside to unload so you don’t need to worry about carrying bags any distance.

Bringing your dog(s): We love to welcome dogs to Old Shop Cottage and happily accept 4 dogs. Please could you bring throws so that your dogs can snooze on the sofa. Please keep your dogs off the beds. Your dogs will love the garden with its 6ft fences, but please do poop scoop daily. Dogs are allowed on the beach all year at Bantham (partial restrictions from May to September, but plenty of lovely soft sand at low tide). There are wonderful dog walks up the beautiful Avon river (so plenty of swimming opportunities!) and along to the coastal path towards Thurlestone (0.5 mile). There are no dog restrictions at any of the Thurlestone beaches.
